Why book this

Four stops that would take you a week to find.

Dresden's Old Town was rebuilt from photographs, and most of what visitors eat here was chosen for them by whoever had the best terrace. This walk goes to four places worth the detour, and tells you why the city around them looks the way it does.

Small groups

Small enough to sit at one table, ask questions and talk to the other guests. No flags, no headsets, no coach.

Four food stops

Something substantial at every one of them, across four separate venues. Come hungry.

Booked with the guide

Local Table is one person, not a franchise. Book here and your money goes to the tour instead of a platform's commission.

The route

Three hours, three sit-downs.

Roughly two kilometres through the Old Town, all flat. The order below is how the walk normally runs — exact timings shift with the day, the season and how busy the Altmarkt is.

Start

Watzke am Ring

We meet outside, sit down and start with a sausage and a tasting flight of four small beers, 10 cl each. Watzke brews in Dresden, and a flight is the quickest way to understand what Saxon brewing actually tastes like.

On the way

Altmarkt & Frauenkirche

The walk from Watzke crosses the Altmarkt — Dresden's oldest square and the home of the Striezelmarkt — and carries on towards the Frauenkirche and the Neumarkt. This is where the story of the city's destruction and reconstruction gets told.

Stop 2

Cheese & wine on Töpferstraße

A small cheese and wine tasting at Cheese & More by Henri Willig. The shop is Dutch, and so is the cheese — gouda in several ages, which is a very different thing from the young supermarket version most people know.

Stop 3

Würzfleisch at Dresden 1900

A Saxon classic: meat baked under a cheese crust, served in the restaurant's own dish shaped like a tram driver's cap, with toast and a small beer or Radler. The restaurant sits by the Frauenkirche and keeps a historic Dresden tram in the room.

On the way

Fürstenzug & Stallhof

Where the route and the time allow, we pass the Fürstenzug — 23,000 Meissen tiles showing eight centuries of Saxon rulers — and the Stallhof courtyard behind it.

Stop 4

Eierschecke at Café Kreutzkamm

Back on the Altmarkt for the sweet finish: Dresdner Eierschecke, a three-layer cake that barely exists outside Saxony, with a coffee. Kreutzkamm has been baking in Dresden since 1825.

One price. Everything on this list.

Not included: bottled water, transport, and tips.

Live availability comes from Bókun, the booking system this tour runs on. Loading the calendar connects your browser to bokun.io and lets them set their own cookies.

Rather not? Email hello@local-table.de and I'll book you in by hand.

The tour normally departs at 11:30 and runs three hours. The calendar above is the source of truth for which dates are actually bookable. You can book a single place, but a walk only runs with at least two guests — if we don't reach two, I'll offer you another date or refund you in full. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the start.

Private tours from €445. Up to five guests included, €89 for each additional guest, maximum ten. Private tours are arranged by email, not through the calendar above — write to hello@local-table.de with your date and group size and I'll come back with a quote.

Before you book

The practical bits.

How much food is this?

Four stops with something substantial at each one — a sausage, a cheese and wine tasting, a baked Würzfleisch with toast, and a slice of cake. Most guests treat it as lunch. It is a tasting menu across four venues, not an all-you-can-eat; portions are set per guest.

Is the cheese Saxon?

No, and we say so on the tour. Cheese & More by Henri Willig is a Dutch cheesemonger with a shop in Dresden. The cheese is Dutch. It is a very good stop, it is simply not a local product, and we would rather be straight about that.

I don't drink alcohol. Does the tour still work?

Yes. Tell me when you book and every alcoholic item is swapped for a soft drink or coffee at no extra cost. The beer flight is the one stop where you will notice the difference, so say so early and I will arrange something better than tap water.

Vegetarian or vegan?

Vegetarian works with advance notice — the cheese, the cake and the drinks are already meat-free, and the first and third stops can be adjusted. Vegan is difficult on this route: three of the four stops are built around meat or dairy. Email me before booking and I will tell you honestly whether it is worth it.

How much walking?

Roughly two kilometres over three hours, all flat, all inside the Old Town. We sit down at three of the four stops.

Can I book a private tour?

Yes. Private tours start at €445 for a group of up to five, plus €89 for each additional guest, to a maximum of ten. Private tours are arranged by email rather than through the calendar — write to hello@local-table.de with your date and group size.

What if it rains?

The tour runs. Three of the four stops are indoors. Bring a jacket.

Which language?

English by default, German on request. Say so when you book, and if the group is mixed I will run it in both.
