Three hours, six stops and a full stomach. A small-group walk through the old town — Bavarian breakfast, cheese straight off the market counter, honey wine, and dessert in a historic beer hall.
Munich's best eating happens in places that look closed, don't have menus in English, and are three streets off the route every guidebook prints. This walk goes to six of them in three hours, with someone who eats there anyway.
Small enough to fit around one table, ask questions, and actually talk to the other guests. No flags, no headsets, no coach.
This replaces a meal rather than teasing one. Breakfast, a shared platter, warm Leberkäse, two beers, honey wine and dessert.
Local Table is one person, not a franchise. Book here and your money goes to the tour instead of a booking platform's commission.
Exactly what lands on the table shifts a little with the season and the day — here's what a typical walk looks like.
On the 10:00 walks: one Weißwurst and one pretzel each, with sweet mustard — eaten the way Munich insists on, before the noon bells.
On the afternoon walks, grilled sausages and sauerkraut take the place of breakfast — the same table, a heavier plate.
Cut warm at the counter and eaten standing up under the maypole. Half a portion each, and the most Munich thing you'll do all day.
A shared board built at the market stalls from whatever the traders are proudest of that morning.
Two small beers across the walk, plus a glass of honey wine at the market — older than beer in Bavaria and the point where the group loosens up.
A shredded, caramelised pancake named after an emperor, shared at the last stop while nobody wants to get up.
Six stops in three hours, four of them food. About two kilometres of walking, all flat — and at two of the stops you are sitting at a table for the best part of an hour.
We meet in front of the last of Munich's medieval city gates — your guide is the one holding a blue umbrella. No food at this one: a short run through how the city came to be here at all, and why a bridge over the Isar turned into a capital.
The first proper stop, in a restaurant that came through the bombing of the Second World War intact. One sausage each, pretzels and a wheat beer. On the afternoon walks this becomes Rostbratwurst with sauerkraut.
Munich's food market since 1807, and where the story of Bavarian beer gets told properly. A cheese plate from the stalls, with a glass of mead alongside — served hot or cold depending on the season.
Cut warm at a local butcher shop and eaten standing up. Half of Munich has this for lunch on the way somewhere else, and almost no visitor ever tries it.
Also no food — this one is about the city. Forty-three bells and a jousting match replayed daily since 1908. Optional: whether we catch it depends on your departure time and the weather.
One of the oldest restaurants in Munich. A shared Bavarian dessert, the second beer, and the stretch where nobody is in any hurry to get up.
Vegetarians are well catered for — tell me when you book and every stop gets a version that works. Vegans, honestly: this isn't the tour for you, and I'd rather say so than take your money.
Guests under 16 get soft drinks instead of the beer and mead.
Not included: bottled water, transport, and tips.
★★★★★Everything was super smooth, the meeting spot was easy to find and the walking pace was chill. The food choices were awesome — from warm pretzels to heavy meat dishes and local beers. Our guide gave us great tips for the rest of our stay too.

★★★★★It was hot as hell and then rained for more than an hour, so European weather gets 2/10 from me. But our guide took us to eat meat and drink beer under cover, the food was good, the beer was awesome, and the stories were super. Definitely would recommend!

Drinks upgrade — €17.99, add it at checkout. Both 0.33 l beers become 0.5 l, and a schnapps is waiting at the last stop.
Live availability comes from Bókun, the booking system this tour runs on. Loading the calendar connects your browser to bokun.io and lets them set their own cookies.
Rather not? Email hello@local-table.de and I'll book you in by hand.
Pick your date and departure time at checkout. Minimum two guests per booking. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the start — after that the tables and food are already committed, but you're welcome to send someone in your place. Tours need at least two guests to run; if we don't reach that, you'll be offered another date or a full refund.
Private tours from €445. Your own group, your own date — families, friends, company teams, birthdays. Also for Oktoberfest dates. Write to hello@local-table.de and I'll come back with a quote.
On the Tal side of the Isar Gate, directly opposite Hotel Torbräu. Four minutes from Marienplatz on the S-Bahn — the stop is called Isartor, and the gate is impossible to miss once you are out of it.
I am there from ten minutes before departure, holding a blue umbrella. You also get a photo of the exact spot with your confirmation email.
Enough to replace a meal. A sausage and pretzel each, a shared platter, half a Leberkäse each, and a dessert — plus two beers and a honey wine. Most guests skip their next meal. Come hungry.
At the Isar Gate, Tal 50, on the side opposite Hotel Torbräu. It's four minutes from Marienplatz by S-Bahn. I'll be there ten minutes early holding a blue umbrella, and you'll get a photo of the exact spot with your confirmation.
Around two kilometres over three hours, all flat, all in the old town. We're sitting down at most of the stops.
Vegetarian works well — tell me when you book and every stop gets a version for you. Vegan doesn't: three of the six stops are built around meat or cheese and I'd rather be honest than sell you a tour of side dishes.
Yes — €79 for ages 10 to 17 and €69 for ages 3 to 9. Anyone under 16 gets soft drinks in place of the beer and mead. Bear in mind that several stops are pubs and market stalls, and the pace suits older children better than toddlers.
Say so at booking and everything alcoholic is swapped for a soft drink at no extra cost. Nobody is going to make a thing of it.
The tour runs. Most of it is indoors, and Munich has weather most of the year. Bring a jacket.
Not currently — a few of the stops have steps and narrow doorways. Pushchairs are fine, and service animals are welcome. If you have specific access needs, email me before booking and I'll tell you honestly whether it works.
Call the number in your confirmation. The group leaves on time, but I can usually bring you in at the second stop. Arriving after that isn't workable, and no refund is due.
English by default. German on request — say so when you book, and if the group is mixed I'll run it in both.
Yes. Private tours start at €445 for the group — families, friends, company teams, birthdays, and Oktoberfest dates. Email me with your date and group size and I'll come back with a quote.
